On the imminent execution of Saddam Hussein

Capital punishment is barbaric; regardless of its form or shape or reason and it should not be carried out against anyone. But if that is to be used against Saddam, then will we see his co-criminals one day face the same fate? They are after all, responsible for more death and destruction in such a short time in power.

Saddam's trial was nothing but a sad joke. His crimes were much more extensive than what he was tried for. In addition to many crimes he committed against his people, he committed the biggest crime against Iranians by attacking Iran short time after the revolution in Iran. His attack initially helped the new regime (which prior to the attack was on a serious deffenive postition to peoples' many democratic demands) to stabilize itself by cracking down on peoples' demands in the name of "national security" and "foreign threats". That US-backed attack was in fact a gift to the regime to stabilize itself, otherwise that regime could not have lasted long.

Secondary result of the attack and the following 8 years of war with Iran resulted in the death of over one million Iranians and Iraqis, on top of many more millions of wounded.

It is indeed the US who wants Saddam dead as soon as possible, because a legitimate trial od Saddam would be a trial of the US as well and to clarify what the US did and the role US played in the crimes committed by Saddam. Saddam was more like a tool, a stupid one though. I still insist; I do believe that Capital punishment is barbaric but if that must be applied on Saddam, it must also be applied to many past and present US leaders who are no less criminal than Saddam and in fact had helped Saddam carry out his crimes while he was in power. However, Saddam is deposed now and is incapable of committing more crimes, but the US leaders still continue their dirty historic role of crimes against humanity.

Let's face it; in committing his crimes, Saddam wasn't alone.
