Friends indeed!

For some reason, and unlike before, today I just feel that I want to write a personal note to express my deep gratitude towards those who make me feel and experience how great it is to have good and caring friends. And I certainly enjoy and appreciate this privilege.

The biggest taboo of the "western freedom of speech"

I have no doubt that Nazi Germany, directly and/or indirectly, caused death to tens of millions of people around the world, including millions of Jews, during the years leading to the WWII and during the years of the war. What the Nazis did was indeed one of, if not the, largest magnitude of crimes against humanity ever. But what is disturbing is the fact that every time the WWII is mentioned, only Holocaust of Jews is brought up. It seems that so many million more non-Jews who were also killed do not count or do not count as much and only Jews have to be remembered as the victims of the Nazis. This is a disgusting double standard that even decent Jews will not and should not accept. But whatever it is, it does not diminish the fact that Jews were of the main targets of the Nazis. The horrors of the WWII including, but not limited to, the crimes against the Jews have to be remembered and have to be taken as lessons from the past to ensure such crimes, even with lesser extents, do not happen again, although I am not so optimistic about this at all and am sure the crimes will happen again and again in the jungle we live in. Remember, it wasn't long ago, only 12 years ago, when 800,000 Rwandans were massacred in only 100 days of violence and the world stood on side and watched. Even worse, at the time we didn't even hear much about it. How much do we hear about that now? Not much! Right? Well, may be it is because they were "valueless and less human blacks" and that Rwanda had no strategic or economical value. Yeah, at that time, about 330 people were being killed every hour for the duration of 100 days, and not many even talked about them then and now.

Getting back to Holocaust, I have already made it clear where I stand with regards to Holocaust and that I do believe the horrors of Holocaust were real and those who deny them are nothing but fools. I also believe the fact that we, collectively allowed that to happen and that it will forever be a source of shame for human kind. However, it is important to realize that the occurrence of the Holocaust has been exploited to the point that even some people including a Jewish author call it The Holocaust Industry. Having said that, I have to add that IF I did not believe that Holocaust had actually happened, I would speak my mind if I wanted to and I would not let anybody to limit my freedom of speech. Holocaust is a historical event and some might believe or wish, for any reason; even stupid reasons, to deny its occurrence. So what? Why shouldn't they say what they think? The horrible reality of the reaction to the denial of the Holocaust is not to write books or make speeches to counter the denial of Holocaust, but it is, in some countries to send people to jail for expressing their views on an historical event. I cannot think of anything in the western world that is as big a taboo as the denial of the Holocaust is. Why? May be I can't see the logic on this. But I cannot accept, or agree with, forcing people to self-censor. Or is it because Israel has that much power and influence on the western governments that it can force its will to these governments to the point that no one should dare to upset Israel? Any idea!?

Can you believe it? US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice is calling Hugo Chavez one of the biggest dangers facing Latin America. How ruthless! Yeah, this is coming from US, yeah US's secretary of State. It is coming from a neo-con official of a country which has had the most serious impact in destabilizing, not just Latin America, but the entire world, and it is directed towards the man who, in such a short time in power and despite all the harassments from the US, has already made positive impact on the lives of the poor and ordinary Venezuelans. Ummm, Oh yeah, that's it. That must be the reason he is hated so much by the puppets of the big business occupying the White House.

In fact, the partially criminal and partially stupid policies of the US with its current mad men and women in charge, have done nothing but providing the ground for the rise of fundamentalism around the world. Really, does this idiot Missy really think that the world's public opinion gives a sh*t about what she or her stupid boss thinks? As a matter of fact, the more they shut up, the better they will be "serving" the spread of democracy around the world.

Off topic "comment"

Shahla, a commenter, feels free to jump in and write a comment completely unrelated to the subject of the post already in place. I realize that sometimes an urgency of some news or issues might warrant such "jumping in"s but promoting a book certainly isn't one of them, but when there is an off topic comment with any reason, at least an apology for being off topic is not a very bad idea. Although the way Shahla tried to communicate her point/promotion with others is not a very professional one and perhaps her "comment" deserves to be completely deleted, I decided to delete the comment from where she placed it but repost it in a brand new post. I even found a link to what she had "copy/paste"d from and leave it to the readers of my blog if they choose to further know about the article. Deleting comment is not my desire and is definitely not my general practice but my request to Shahla is: "please don't do that again". Anyway, here it is:

Pat Robertson; the "legal" terrorist

Pat Robertson, the terrorist-minded idiot is still free to talk of assassination of Hugo Chavez, the elected president of Venezuela. And this is all happening in a country which claims to be anti-terrorism.

Just watch the guy! Isn't he a clear expression of dumbness combined with criminality?

Is Harper's first broken promise coming on the first day in power?

I don't know, but it seems to me that we can expect to see the first broken promise of Stephen Harper in the first day assuming power on February the 6th.

One of the main campaign promises of Canada's Prime Minister-designate, Stephen Harper was to lower the GST from 7 to 6 percent right away after forming the government (and lower by one more percentage point within five years). Regardless of the fact that the GST cut would only benefit those with high disposable income, I am not even sure if Harper can keep his promise. After all, as far as I know, the existence of the GST is a law and in order to change that law, it needs to be revisited in and by the parliament (which is not even known when it will begin working) and after all the debates, if the modification attracts majority of votes, it can become the new law.

Harper should have and must have known the parliamentary procedures when he was making that promise. If my understanding of the procedure is accurate, then the question is that is Harper incompetent for not knowing about this or was he simply lying to the voters while he knew he wouldn't be able to deliver on his promise, at least the way it was outlined in his election campaign!

Now, let's see how he is going to deal with this issue and his possible broken promise.
